Tree of Life

Every country has certain unofficial symbols that represent it, such as the Eiffel Tower – the symbol of France, kimono – Japan, wooden shoes represent the Netherlands, the kilt is Scottish, Italy is associated with pizza, Greece is characterized by olives and deities.

The symbols of Moldova are the renowned “alțiță” embroidered shirt, the rose, the white stork, and, of course, the Tree of Life. This symbol traces its roots back to the Getae-Dacians. They used it, painting it especially on their weapons, helmets, and shields. It held a unique symbolism – it protected them from dangers and gave them a sense of direct connection to the supreme divinity.

Although we are primarily an Orthodox country, the Tree of Life is still present in the daily life of the people. It is often used during funeral rituals.

Currently, the Tree of Life has become a national brand. Its branches represent a natural evolution of the national tourism brand “Tree of Life,” elements of which refer to the importance of tourism and winemaking, complemented by symbols of the other 5 strategic sectors of the national economy: Light Industry, IT, Automotive and Electronics, Infrastructure, and Energy.
