The City Hall of Chișinău Municipality joins the European project SUSTAIN-2 – A Sustainability Model for Tourism (F&B).

Chisinau City Hall is joining the European project “SUSTAIN-2 – A Sustainability Model for Tourism (F&B)”, financed by the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin Fund, together with partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Ukraine.

The general objective of the Project is to jointly contribute to the development of a more competitive and smarter Black Sea Basin region by supporting the blue economy and, in particular, tourism, through the promotion of ESG sustainability principles (Environmental, Social, Governance) for tourism stakeholders, especially in the Food & Beverage (F&B) sector. The project also aims to create conditions and facilitate the adoption and implementation of sustainable practices by the entire spectrum of operators (including small ones), by using Artificial Intelligence and ensuring long-term sustainability effects.

The tourism sector is a transnational and interconnected field, subject to complex and challenging changes that go beyond geographical borders. At the same time, it is among the fastest-growing sectors with high development potential.

Promoting and strengthening cooperation between countries represents the only way to develop and implement effective solutions to address contemporary challenges.

The project was officially launched on 15 December 2025 and will be implemented over a period of 2 years.

The total project budget amounts to 1,090,064.60 EUR, of which:

  • 981,058.11 (90%) EUR – INTERREG Fund of the European Union;
  • 109,006.49 (10%) EUR – contributions from the Partners.

The total amount allocated to the Chisinau City Hall for the implementation of the project “SUSTAIN-2 – A Sustainability Model for Tourism (F&B)” is 154,872.22 EUR, distributed as follows:

  • 139,384.99 EUR will be reimbursed to the municipal budget through the project leader – Democritus University of Thrace – School of Engineering (Greece) – from European Union funds, after each project reporting period;
  • 15,487.23 EUR – the municipality’s own non-reimbursable contribution (10% of the total allocated budget).

Through the implementation of the project “SUSTAIN-2 – A Sustainability Model for Tourism (F&B)”, Chisinau City Hall will support the capacity building of economic operators in the tourism sector, especially in the Food & Beverage (F&B) sector, to adopt innovative solutions and sustainable practices. Consequently, the project will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of tourist destinations, reducing environmental impact, and generating sustainable socio-economic benefits for the community.
