Life and training
𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐠𝐚 was born on March 1, 1937 in the village of Mocra, located on the left bank of the Dniester River, in a period marked by war, famine and hardship. Despite these conditions, he managed to make it to Chisinau, where he was admitted to the Ștefan Neaga School of Music, although he had no formal musical training. He later graduated from the State Conservatory in Chisinau, specializing in cello and composition.
Career and artistic contributions
𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐚 has composed over 200 film soundtracks, including for famous productions such as “A Stone Rises to Heaven” and “The Light of the Beacon”. Among his works are three ballets (“Luceafărul”, “Venancia”, “Queen Margot”), the opera “Dialogues of Love”, over 100 instrumental and choral works, 6 quartets, a “Requiem”, church music, as well as music for 13 plays and over 260 songs and romances.
One of his most famous creations is the waltz from the movie “Sweet and Tender My Beast”, considered the “Waltz of the Century” and included by UNESCO in the World Cultural Heritage.

Recognition and awards
Throughout his career, 𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐚 has received numerous awards, including the title of People’s Artist of the USSR (1987), the USSR State Prize (1986), the Order of the Republic of Moldova (1997) and the National Order “Star of Romania” In 2007 and 2017, the Republic of Moldova declared these years as the “Year of 𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐚”, in homage to his exceptional contribution to national culture.
The legacy
𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐚 was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Chisinau in 2007, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. This distinction was conferred in recognition of his exceptional contribution to national and international culture. In the same year, 2007, he was declared for the first time “Year 𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐚” in the Republic of Moldova, marking the importance of his work in the country’s cultural heritage. And in 2015 Chisinau’s pedestrian street was named after him. 𝐄𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐚 remains an emblematic figure of classical and film music in the Romanian and international space. His music continues to inspire generations of artists and bring emotion to audiences around the world.
