the Destination Management Committee and a Large-Scale Participatory (SUSDEST-NET)
The Chisinau City Hall announces the official launch of the process for establishing the Chisinau Destination Management Committee (CDMC) and a participatory mapping campaign aimed at identifying and promoting the capital’s urban landmarks.
Implemented within the framework of the international SUSDEST-NET project (BSB00884), these strategic initiatives seek to foster sustainable development and enhance the competitiveness of destinations across the Black Sea Basin. They reinforce the municipality’s commitment to implementing a modern tourism governance model based on close cooperation among public authorities, academia, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and the local community.
Public Call for the Establishment of the Chisinau Destination Management Committee
Starting on 3 June 2026, a public call is launched for the selection of members of the Chisinau Destination Management Committee (CDMC), a consultative and decision-making body that will coordinate the planning and implementation of sustainable tourism development measures for the Chisinau destination.

Applications may be submitted from 3 to 12 June 2026. Members will be selected by a specialized committee based on the principles of representativeness, transparency, and gender balance (minimum 40% representation for each gender).
The selection results will be announced on 16 June 2026, while the first official meeting of the CDMC will take place on 19 June 2026, marking the formal establishment of the new destination management structure.
A Collaborative Platform for Sustainable Tourism Development
The CDMC will consist of 11 members representing the main sectors involved in tourism and urban development:
• Chisinau City Hall;
• cultural organizations;
• sustainability experts;
• private sector representatives (hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and other relevant businesses);
• civil society organizations;
• academic and research institutions;
• district-level local public authorities.
The structure will be chaired by a representative of the Chisinau City Hall leadership and will contribute to the development and implementation of local policies in the field of sustainable tourism, in line with international standards.
The 11 selected members will be direct beneficiaries of the project and will actively participate in the Committee’s decision-making process with voting rights. Representatives of the tourism sector and other interested organizations will also be able to participate in consultations, workshops, and training sessions organized throughout the project.
Young People Invited to Contribute to Chisinau’s Tourism Map
In parallel with the establishment of the CDMC, a large-scale participatory mapping campaign will be launched on 8 June 2026, primarily targeting young people aged between 16 and 35.
The campaign aims to identify and promote the places that define Chisinau’s identity and deserve to be included on the city’s tourism map.
“You know Chisinau better than anyone. Show us the places that deserve to be on the city’s tourism map!”
Participants will be able to submit locations through an online form available from 8 June 2026 on the Visit Chisinau platform (visit.chisinau.md).
Each submission should include:
• the name of the site;
• category;
• a short description;
• address or geographic coordinates;
• optional photographs.
Suggested locations may include:
• parks and green spaces;
• cultural and historical attractions;
• urban art and street art installations;
• leisure and recreational areas;
• walking routes and thematic trails;
• authentic hidden gems;
• accommodation and food service establishments with a local character.
An Interactive Map for Promoting the City
All submissions will be reviewed and validated by project experts. Selected locations will be geolocated and integrated into an interactive tourism map of Chisinau.
The first version of the map is expected to be published on the Visit Chisinau platform by 31 July 2026, offering both residents and visitors a new way to explore the city through its cultural, natural, and urban heritage.
The collected data will also contribute to the destination baseline assessment and the preparation of the Sustainability Plan for the Municipality of Chisinau, both strategic documents foreseen under the SUSDEST-NET project.
Training and Consultation Programme for a Sustainable Destination
Four thematic workshops will be organized in June:
• 19 June 2026 – Establishment of the CDMC and introduction to the project concept;
• 25 June 2026 – Community and stakeholder engagement in developing an effective destination management structure;
• 25 June 2026 – Presentation of participatory mapping results and methodology for developing the interactive map;
• 29 June 2026 – GSTC Criteria for Sustainable Tourism Destinations and assessment tools applicable to the Municipality of Chisinau.
Each workshop will bring together at least 20 participants from public administration, the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations selected through an open call.
Chisinau – A Sustainable and Competitive Tourism Destination
Through the SUSDEST-NET project, the Municipality of Chisinau aims to develop a modern destination management model based on cooperation, participation, and sustainability.
The identification and promotion of local heritage, together with the creation of an interactive tourism map, will strengthen the city’s image as an attractive, authentic, and sustainable urban destination.
