Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (1838 – 1907)

Name given at birth – Tadeu Hîjdeu. Writer, philologist, academician, encyclopaedist, jurist, linguist, folklorist, publicist, historian and an important political personality, descended from noble intellectual lineage. Hasdeu was one of the greatest personalities of Romanian culture of all times.
He attended the Regional Gymnasium in Chisinau (now the building houses the Chisinau Municipal Library, which obviously bears his name).
The recognition of the city’s intellectuals towards the great encyclopedist was also the opening of his bust on the “Alley of Classics” in 1957.
Similarly, a street and a high school in the capital of the Republic of Moldova are named after him.
