Ion și Doina Aldea-Teodorovici (1954-1992, 1958-1992)

“Two twin hearts” – teachers, musicians, singers, Ion is also a brilliant composer. He has written symphonic music, chamber music, children’s songs, songs for films, for dramatic performances, including sacred music.
Together with his wife he campaigned for the reunification of Moldova with Romania. They opted for a return to the Romanian language and Latin spelling.
On 27 August 1991, Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici sang for Sovereignty and Independence at the Great National Assembly, then immediately left for the Mamaia Festival in Romania, where Doina was to say: “I come here directly from the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau, to bring you the greetings of our freedom”.
On the night of 29-30 October 1992, Doina and Ion died in a tragic accident in Romania. A year later they were awarded the Order of the Republic posthumously.
In 2003 the Festival – competition “Two twin hearts” in memoriam Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici was initiated and ran until 2018.
In Chisinau a street in the Buiucani sector bears their name, and at the central entrance to the “Valea Morilor” park we can see the statue erected in honour of the memorable couple.
